Textile Screen Printing Beginner's Course

  • Print Clan 241 High Street Glasgow United Kingdom (map)

Learn the basics of screen printing onto textiles during this 6 week evening class.

You will be guided step-by-step through the screen printing process, gain confidence in using the technique independently and will produce a range of textile samples. You will be encouraged to layer colour, shape and pattern to develop interesting surface pattern designs. The course will cover using blank screens with stencils and the traditional screen preparation technique.

What will happen during the course?
You will learn the traditional screen preparation process which will enable you to translate your artwork onto screens to create a selection of textile samples approximately A3 size. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work towards a final print or you can choose to print onto plain tote bags, tea towels or t-shirts if you would like to.

What experience do I need?
This is a course for both complete beginners and those who wish to refresh their skills. Perhaps you have done one of our one-off workshops at Drawing Life Studio or a taster session at Supermarket hosted by The Glasgow Markets and would like to develop your screen printing skills further - then this is the course for you!

Equipment Provided:
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, a range of ink colours, chemicals, paper, pens, cutting mats and knives are all included. Fabric is not provided so you are required to bring fabric for printing along with you - natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen give the best results. You can also bring along merchandise to print onto such as totes and cushion covers and you may want to take notes and sketch out ideas in a sketchbook.
