What will happen during the workshop?
You will have the opportunity to experiment using blank screens and paper stencils to create screen prints. You will be encouraged to play with surface pattern designs using overlaying techniques with a focus on colour, shape and texture. There will be time to experiment with the process to create a range of exciting samples.
I have never done screen printing before, can I come?
Of course - the workshop is suitable for all skills levels. Everyone is welcome and no previous experience is necessary.
What will I make?
During the first hour you will make a small set of screen printed fabric samples using a combination of different screen printing techniques. You will then move on to print your own personalised tote bag, tea towel or t-shirt, the choice is yours.
Equipment Provided:
Equipment and materials such as screens, squeegees, a range of ink colours, newsprint paper, cutting mats and knives are all included for the workshop fee of £25. We will also provide fabric samples, however you are welcome to bring any additional fabric for printing along with you - natural fabrics such as a plain cotton or linen give the best results. Likewise if you have a garment which you would like to print your design onto, you are welcome to bring that along too!
Your Tutor:
Beth Farmer is a founding member of Print Clan. She is a practicing textile artist who is also an active member of the Aural Textiles research project. She works part time as an expressive arts facilitator with different groups across the city of Glasgow. This work focuses on helping participants to experience personal transformations which build resilience and empower them to effectively face personal challenges. Beth has a background in photography and worked for many years in the Netherlands where she developed a passion for printed textiles. Her current focus is to build a unique textiles community in Glasgow through the development of the outreach work, open access textile printing services and workshops offered by Print Clan.
