This month has seen the finish of our Print From Home courses in their current format, as our Creative Scotland funding comes to an end. When we first wrote the application back in Summer 2020 and planned a 6 month project to end in March 2021, we weren’t even sure if there’d still be any need for online teaching, as we were optimistic things would be back to norma!… Seven cohorts later, we have taught 67 students, sent out 47kg of ink and binder, and spent 42 hours teaching on Zoom! The courses worked better than we could have imagined, and although learning to screen print online has definitely not been without its challenges, we are so grateful to have met so many wonderful new printers through lockdown.

Materials packs provided as part of the Print From Home course

The funding from Creative Scotland allowed us to purchase 25 squeegees and screens which we will continue to use well into the future, as well as all other consumables in the material packs. It subsidised the ticket price of the courses, paid our staff through a period of uncertainty, and enabled us to offer free places for our third sector network beneficiaries. We’ve engaged with individuals from Project Ability, GalGael Trust, Refuweegee, Impact Arts, Glasgow Disability Alliance and Govan Community Project. Glasgow has such an excellent network of third sector organisations and we’re so glad to have built on existing relationships and formed new partnerships throughout this time.

Although the funded project has reached an end, we plan to continue hosting Print From Home workshops in the coming months, and have just launched a new one for April! The price model will be adjusted slightly, but in line with Print Clan’s ethos we aim is to keep the courses as accessible as possible.

We will also continue to use income from paid tickets to provide subsidised spots for our referral network. We know from feedback how valuable these free spots have been for individuals suffering disproportionately from the effects of Covid-19. An overwhelming 97% of surveyed students felt that making art can help improve their mental health, with 85% agreeing that the Print From Home course improved their mood.

I was suffering really badly from lockdown fatigue. Felt creatively stifled and lonely. The course seemed like the perfect antidote (and it was!)

We want to extend our thanks to everyone who’s supported Print From Home over the past 6 months - whether that be through promotion, encouragement, our referral network, or taking part. We can’t wait to welcome you to the studio, in person, when it is safe to do so.
